I think it covers in great detail the Web 2.0 trends that are currently going on. The key factors in Web 2.0 are mobility, socialization, and personalization. These days it is so important for us to be able to work (and play) on the go. This requires that we have the appropriate devices to make this happen (e.g., iPhone & Blackberry) and access to the Internet from anywhere. There are so many sites that have been created for the purpose of socialization including the site we are using for our IT 780 class, Ning. It has become so popular to meet friends and even date online. Personalization is also a huge factor in Web 2.0. Everyone wants to have his or her own personal experience when using the Web, like in Second Life, you create your own avatar and live out a “second life” that you might not have been able to have in your “first life”.

There are so many tools being created at such a fast right, it is hard to keep up with everything that is out there. I had never heard of Ning before taking this class, but I have now created 2 social networks on Ning (one for my family and one for our Boy Scout troop). I have found that it is a great way to share things especially since parts of our family live overseas. Another tool that has been great for our family is Skype. We used to pay huge phone bills to speak to my husband’s parents, but now we can talk to them for free with our computer and see them every time we speak to them instead of only seeing them once every few years.
