My wife and I have made several presentations regarding the free technology tools for teachers in the past several MECA conferences. Many teachers indicated that they liked the sessions and they were benefited from the free tools they discovered in our presentations. Because of the success we had in the past, we gave another presentation “Top 20 Web 2.0 Tools for Teachers and Librarians” this morning at the 2010 MECA Conference in Jackson, Mississippi. This presentation focuses entirely on the most current and popular Web 2.0 applications that are powerful and valuable to teachers and librarians. Here is our presentation. Hope you find it helpful.

[...] Top 20 Web 2.0 Tools for Teachers and Librarians « Tech Learning [...]
It is encouraging to see a presentation focused on teachers and librarians in terms of the Web2.0 technologies which are available. Librarians are often the most underutilized or misused members of a school staff. Their knowledge of information literacy, research skills, and general literacy is an asset to teachers and should be respected.
When librarians play a central role in the instruction and encouragement of good research and presentation skills, they can provide instrumental assistance to the classroom teacher who may be untrained in those areas. In schools with fully equipped computers in the library, the librarian can offer individual guidance, group lectures, and practical hands-on-training of Web2.0 learning tools. Given the resources of the school and the time allocated for the librarian for each class, appropriate training and support for information literacy programs and courses which support the use of online Web2.0 learning tools can be determined.
In my experience, librarians in schools are often teachers who are simply not provided with as much contact time and responsibilities for training students in information retrieval, collection, and assessment as they were trained for. Providing more teaching opportunities and access to training for Web2.0 learning tools will enrich the school environment as a whole and help librarians to reach their own teaching objectives.
